Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant

Project Description

The project will provide the first stage of the proposed seawater desalination plant using reverse osmosis at Tseung Kwan O (TKO) Area 137. The plant will have a water production capacity at 135,000 cubic metres (m3) per day with provision for future expansion to the ultimate water production capacity up to 270,000 m3 per day.

Key components of the Project:

  • Formation of the reserved site of about 10 hectares in TKO Area 137.
  • Design and construction of the proposed desalination plant including:
    • Seawater treatment components using RO technology
    • Intake pipes, intake pumping station and outfall pipes
    • Administration building
    • Laboratory, maintenance workshop
    • Chemical building and chlorine building
    • Sludge filter press building
    • Fresh water pumping station
    • Power supply facilities
  • Laying of about 9 km long water mains for conveying the fresh water produced at the proposed desalination plant to existing fresh water service reservoirs
